Military Seeks Alternative To Housing Website
It's going to get a little harder for soldiers to find the best available housing around Fort Drum, at least for awhile.
Soldiers have typically turned to a website called Automated Housing Referral Network (www.ahrn.com), which has detailed and searchable listings of army-inspected and approved housing.
The Department of Defense is ending its decade-long contract with the website effective January 1and it could take the military about six months to put up a similar website of its own.
"The good news is, there's a lot more housing out there in the market and there's a lot more new housing out there," said Fort Drum housing chief William Bamann, "so it's not a real crunch for people who have a hard time finding places for rent that we had here five, six years ago.
As an interim solution, local landlords can call 315-772-7319 to list their properties as approved army housing.
To see the listings, soldiers will either go to the housing office on post or visit www.drum.army.mil and click on the "housing" tab.
