Update: Woman Died After 'Blunt Force Trauma'A woman who died Sunday night in Watertown suffered 'blunt force trauma' to her head, an autopsy determined. Still unclear: whether she fell, jumped or was pushed from the vehicle she was in. Watertown police identified the victim as 24-year-old Angela Perdue. Perdue is not from the Watertown area, but had recently taken an apartment on Winslow Street in Watertown. An autopsy by Dr. Samuel Livingstone, the county's medical examiner, "determined the immediate cause of death was cerebral avulsion, due to blunt force trauma," according to a statement from Watertown police. At around 7:15 p.m.Sunday , the Jefferson County 911 center received numerous phone calls, reporting that a female had jumped or had fallen out of a moving vehicle on Mill Street near the city limits, according to a press release from the Watertown Police Department. Watertown police Lt. Frank Derrigo said Perdue 'exited' a sports utility vehicle traveling 30 miles an hour on Mill Street. Derrigo said Perdue was dragged a short distance after being struck by the rear tire. She died at the scene. Police are trying to establish how she ended up going out of the moving vehicle. Police are investigating exactly what was going on in the vehicle before the incident and what Perdue's relationship was to the driver. The driver, 24 year old John Preston of Dayton, Tennessee, has been questioned and is staying in a local hotel, police said. The investigation is being handled by the detective division of the Watertown Police Department.
The district attorney's office says it knows of the incident, but the investigation is in the hands of the police department right now. Derrigo classified the case as a death investigation.
