Mohawk Tribe to Close IGA Grocery Store

The only supermarket on the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation is closing.

The Mohawk Tribal Council announced Wednesday the First Americans IGA has not done well for some time now and will close its doors May 9. 

The closure affects 28 full and 12 part-time employees.

Officials said the store lacked the support of the local community and had too much other competition in the area.
