Ogdensburg Council Votes To Fire Sciorra

By Scott Atkinson

The Ogdensburg city council voted 5-1 Monday night to dismiss city manager Art Sciorra.

It's the outcome of a long running dispute over a family allowed to live in a city property without paying rent.

Sciorra had no comment after the meeting, but said he would release a statement shortly.

Sciorra has already filed paperwork as the first step toward suing the city.

During Monday night's meeting, council members chided Sciorra for 'willful and habitual neglect.'

At issue: a family allowed to live in a home at 819 Knox Street for three years without paying the city, even though the city owned the property.

The only council member to vote against firing Sciorra Monday night was Daniel Skamperle. Another council member, Nicholas Vaugh, skipped the meeting. Vaugh reportedly believed he wasn't given the resolution to fire Sciorra in enough time.

(See the Watertown Times story on the subject here.)

The resolution pssed by council Monday night gives Sciorra five days in which to respond. In the meantime, Ogdensburg's assistant city manager wlll run city government.
