Two Jump From Burning Home In Hammond

Two Hammond residents suffered injuries when they were forced to jump from the second floor of their residence Monday morning to escape a fire.

St. Lawrence County fire investigators said Ryan Perretta, of 799 State Route 37, suffered hand, back and head burns and an injury to his right hand while Rachel Brenno, same address, suffered back, hand and feet bruises.

Both were taken to Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.

Firefighters had difficulty putting the fire out during to the below freezing temperatures. The home, owened by Brenda Dulmage, Morristown, was destroyed.

Investigators said the apartment had a smoke detector, but the occupants did not hear it going off.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A family dog died in the blaze.

Volunteers from Hammond, Plessis, Brier Hill, Morristown, Lisbon, Heuvelton, Redwood and Theresa were called to the home at about 2:45 a.m.
