Mother's Day Business Boost

If you received a special Mother's Day bouquet in Watertown this week there's a good chance Gray's Flower Shop employee Kenny Paragon had a hand in making it all come together.

"I do it all, I'm a gopher," Paragon said.

Sunday, Kenny was delivering.

And he had plenty to deliver.

It is estimated that the average consumer will spend $152 on gifts for mom this year - that's up $12 dollars from Mother's Day 2011.

Designer Jennifer Dalrymple said Gray's Flower Shop employees saw double or even triple their usual workload.

"We've been working since Sunday for Mother's Day," she said.

The delivery board at Gray's that holds the slips for every order the store takes was full on Mother's Day. It was even fuller the day before.

"Our biggest day was yesterday, but today, we're still taking in some orders, and making a lot of deliveries," said owner Scott Gray.

Because of the massive amount of Mother's Day orders this year, Gray's had 16 trucks on the road for 11 hours Saturday.  They had to rent 8 of those trucks.

"Yesterday was bad. Yesterday was super busy," said Paragon.

But there was still plenty for him to do Sunday, including a delivery to Mrs. Zimmerman in the Samaritan Keep Home.

Paragon says it's a lot of walking, and it takes a little patience, but seeing the reactions of mothers when they receive the flowers makes it all worth it.
