It was moving in day Thursday for hundreds of incoming freshman students at SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam.

At SUNY Canton, about 850 new students were greeted by campus volunteers as they lugged everything from mini-refrigerators and microwaves to the latest electronic gadgetry into their college dorms.

The students will spend the next few days in orientation sessions and getting acquainted with the campus and community.

Meanwhile, at nearby SUNY Potsdam, roughly 840 students and their parents arrived on campus to begin a whirlwind of activities.

The incoming students said they are looking forward to making the transition from high school to college life.

"I am nervous, but I'm more excited," said freshman Martha Johnson.  "I want to meet a lot of new people and get good experiences and learn."

Classes at both SUNY campuses will begin Monday morning.
