New Calendar Celebrates Canton's History

A 2014 calendar is taking a step back in time to show the history of Canton through pictures and diary entries.

The calendar features the daily 1800's journal writings of Herbert Barber, who was an accountant and village and town clerk for 34 years.

Barber kept small leatherbound journals from 1870-1890 and wrote about everything from local politics and business dealings to weather and community events.

He died in 1926

Canton Historian Linda Casserly says the snippets and pictures in the calendar provide a unique glimpse of Canton's past.

The calendars are available for $15 at the Canton historian's office or by calling (315) 386-1633.
