New Hope For Derelict Downtown Massena Building

The former Slavin's building in downtown Massena could soon be revitalized into a possible mix of apartments, offices and retail stores.

A newly formed corporation known as Downtown Massena LLC is the new owner of the old downtown business.
The village assumed ownership of the property for unpaid taxes and now village officials say selling the building to Downtown Massena LLC is the next step in a revitalization plan.
"People are just sick and tired of looking at a boarded-window building that has trees and everything growing out of the middle of it," Mayor James Hidy said.
"If anybody thinks right now that Massena isn't on the rebound, better think again," the mayor said. "We're coming back."
Officials say the LLC welcomes anyone in the Massena community interested in either investing money or time to help revitalize the building and put it back into use.
