New Minister Restores Faith At Antwerp Church

Minister Lecelle Providence knows she has a lot to be grateful for.

Providence was hired part time to help bring more members to Antwerp United Methodist Church.

About a year ago, the church stopped having Sunday services because of a lack of members.

"My mission was to restore the church back and to bring the youth back and to provide some activity for the church," Providence said.

Providence says she had faith the church would grow.

It was faith that allowed the minister to envision having a choir.

She said the Village Praise Team started with just her niece and nephew, but now it has at least 20 people.

Church members say they are pleased.

"We've dreamed of this day," Ivan Filiatrault said, "never thought we'd see it happen."

"Then Providence showed up," Pam Lalonde said, "and she was providence."

It was providence because Minister Providence saw a day when the church would be full and it is starting to come true.

Every time she preaches, she has the congregation make a circle around the church.

They couldn't make a full circle in the beginning, but now they can.

"God's gonna use me and this church to be the lighthouse to this community," Providence said.
