New York Students' Math Scores Fall In National TestNew national test scores show New York is the only state to see math scores fall for fourth graders over the past two years. Overall, the report shows the state's progress is mostly stagnant. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), a widely cited testing program, found New York's fourth graders who took the math NAEP test in the spring had a lower average score than the national average. New York's score was lower than 30 states. New York's 2011 score was lower than the 2009 score, but higher than the 1992 score, the earliest comparison included in Tuesday's report.
