Latest projections show the 315 area code will run out of numbers by early 2015, but it doesn't look as if the state's Public Service Commission is in any hurry to do anything about it.
The PSC meets Thursday, but action on the area code is not on the agenda.
The commission next meets on October 17.
Officials are considering two ways of adding an area code to the area covered by 315. They can either separate the region in two or they can assign a second area code to new telephone numbers.
The idea originally surfaced in 2009, but was shelved after officials learned they wouldn't run out of 315 numbers as soon as they thought.
The PSC held hearings on the 315 area code in August in Utica, Watertown and Syracuse. Only one person showed up for the August 6 hearing in Watertown.
