No Major Damage When Military Statue Tips Over

Tools

A Fort Drum monument escaped serious damage when it fell over due to high winds overnight.

Fort Drum officials say the Military Mountaineers statue was knocked off its base around midnight Wednesday by a tent that wind tore loose.

The tent had been set up for Thursday's Veterans Day ceremony on post.

Officials say because the 1,800-pound statue fell into mulch, there was no damage to the artwork itself and only a little damage to the base.

Officials say they expect to have the statue back in place in about a week.
