Nor'easter Interrupts Mild Spring

A spring nor'easter brought heavy, wet snow, sleet, and rain to the North Country Monday morning.

Some parts of the region ended up with several inches of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, Canton received 4 inches, Massena got 3 inches and Lowville and Theresa got 1 inch.

People in Barnes Corners in Lewis County reported seeing about 5 and a half inches of snow.

The weather made the morning commute a little tricky for many drivers, resulting in a number of minor accidents.

Many schools delayed their openings and some even closed for the day.

The fender-bender pictured above was in the town of Canton.

St. Lawrence County sheriff deputies say the driver was not injured after striking guide rails along State Route 310.

Deputies say the operator was trying to pass another vehicle and lost control on the slushy roadway.

Just down the road, another car ended up in a field after skidding off the highway.

Snow in April is not unheard of, but many people around the north country were taken by surprise.

"It was such an easy winter so, I mean, in a way, yeah, we could be a little spoiled," said Dustin King of Lowville.

"Well, we knew we were going to pay for this nice weather so here we go," said Martha Ulman of Watertown.

If this is pay back, it continues into the week.

Tuesday is expected to be unseasonably cold and parts of the north country could see even more snow.
