Norfolk Man Dies In Car Crash

A 67 year old Norfolk man was killed Tuesday evening when his car struck a tree.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department said James Murphy lost control of his car on River Road in the town of Potsdam at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Officials said Murphy was driving in a southerly direction and failed to negotiate a curve.

The car left the road and struck a tree.

Officials said Murphy suffered massive blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The sheriff's department was assisted at the scene by state police,  Norwood Fire Department, Norfolk Fire and Rescue departments and the Potsdam Police Department.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.
