North Country Group Plans To Rehab 256 Rental Units

North Country Rural Preservation is a group that's taking a swing at the housing crunch.

Instead of building new homes, however, the group plans to update and renovate 254 affordable housing rental units.

Most of the homes are in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties. It's a joint project involving federal, state and local governments.

Jill Harney of U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development says, "The bottom line is that we have a cutting edge collaborative deal with state, federal, local government - private-public partners - coming together to renovate, rehabilitate housing across the North Country."

The project will cost nearly $30 million and is expected to be completed next year.
