North Country Joins Northeast In Bracing For Winter Storm

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis and Oswego counties beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday.

This is part of a major winter storm which is expected to impact the Northeast and New England Friday into Saturday.

As much as one to two feet of snow is forecast from the New York City metro area to Maine, with localized heavier amounts possible.

This, in addition to wind gusts as high as 60 to 75 miles per hour, will create significant impacts to transportation and power.
Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties could see 10 to 18 inches of snow, with the heaviest snowfall expected Friday afternoon and evening.

St. Lawrence County could get 8 to 14 inches of snow.

The NWS says travel will be difficult and that snow will fall across the entire region, not just in areas prone to lake effect.

Due to the weather forecast, some delays and cancellations have been reported.

The 1000 Islands Privateers game was cancelled for Thursday night.

Fort Drum will operate on a delay Friday.

The Seaway House in Ogdensburg will be closed Friday.
