10th Mountain Division soldiers were instrumental in fighting the Iraq war and rebuilding the country afterward.

That's all being threatened by Islamic militants and now the U.S. has launched airstrikes in Iraq.

Veteran Augie Maida says the U.S should not be involved at all.

"I don't know if they can ever be helped and maybe we should stay out of this one," he said.

Some people say the U.S should help, because it can.

"There is a time and place for that and this may be one of those time and places," veteran Thomas Hohl said.

"My opinion is we have to help people," Chris Strobert said.

Congressman Bill Owens says he doesn't think the latest events will have a major affect on Fort Drum.

"It's hard for me to imagine that a deployment of Fort Drum troops would occur simply because that takes a couple of months to pull together," Owens said.

President Barack Obama has said that no matter what the U.S is doing now he will not put soldiers in Iraq -- there won't be boots on the ground.
