North country assets are being sent south to help with relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Among them are crews and equipment from the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project in Massena are heading downstate to help restore power on Long Island.

They're among 1,900 utility crews on their way to help with recovery efforts.

Members of the 10th Mountain Division Combat Aviation Brigade left Wednesday morning for Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts so they're in a better position to help with hurricane relief.

Eight Black Hawk helicopters with trained and equipped crews are better positioned and prepared to support hurricane relief missions if requested.
