Northside Improvement League Vows To Pay Back Taxes

A central New York man bought the tax sale certificate for the Northside Improvement League Tuesday.

The purchase price was $2,920.64 - the amount of back taxes the league owes.

"They need to bring all of their taxes current within the two year period or face the likelihood of losing the parcel," said city Comptroller James Mills.

So what does that mean for the league?

President Brenda Parker says despite some tough times over the last few years, the league is doing well and hopes to pay the back taxes next month.

"We should be able to take care of that part of our taxes. We don't have any reason not to," said Parker.

Parker says the organization is bringing in money with weekly bingo and has other plans to bring in more revenue.

"You have to try and bring in a younger crowd and see if you can get their younger crowd and their families," she said.

If the league doesn't pay the back taxes in the next two years, the company which bought the tax certificate can take over the Mill Street property.

That company, ICA Renovations, could have its hands full.

The company successfully bid on 55 other properties at the auction, spending more than $185,000.
