One of  Oswego County's most notorious sex offenders is now being held in civil confinement in Ogdensburg.

52 year old Raymond Younis was convicted of 86 counts of sexual abuse against 17 boys and was classified as a Level 3 sexually violent and a predicate sex offender.

He is being held in civil confinement at the secured nearly 100-bed Bridgeview Sexual Violent Offender unit on the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center grounds behind a 16 foot high razor-wire fence, 7 News reporter John Friot reports.

Younis served 16 years of a 20 year sentence after being pleading guilty in 1998 to 86 sex counts, including sexual abuse and sodomy, involving young victims in the Phoenix area.

He was released from Cayuga Correctional facility after a parole hearing in May and had been held in the maximum security unit at the Marcy Psychiatric Center before being transferred to Ogdensburg's Bridgeview.

The state began housing sexually violent offenders at the Ogdensburg facility after legislation was passed requiring civil confinement of sex offenders deemed too dangerous to be released after serving prison sentences.
