An Ogdensburg man faces numerous charges in the August 4 hit and run death of another man on Black Lake Road.
Devon Ferguson-Brenno, 26, was being held without bail Wednesday at the St. lawrence County correctional facility. Ferguson-Brenno was arrested in Surprise, Arizona, where he was staying with a relative, and returned to St. Lawrence County Tuesday night.
He's charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while ability impaired by drugs, tampering with evidence, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and obstructing governmental administration, said State Police Bureau of Criminal Invesigation Senior Investigator Timothy Peets.
Ferguson-Brenno initially reported his vehicle, a Honda CRV, as stolen from a store near where the accident took place. The vehicle had sustained damage to the passenger side.
Benjamin Schick, 19, from the Buffalo area, was struck and killed on the night of August 4 as he walked on Black Lake Road, which is in southwestern St. Lawrence County, a short distance from Ogdensburg.
Peets said a grand jury considered the case and issued an indictment against Ferguson-Brenno, which led to the arrest. Peets said Ferguson-Brenno apparently wasn't trying to hide in Arizona, and at one point had been in touch with them.
Ferguson-Brenno is due back in court next Thursday.
