Ogdensburg Mayor Hopes To Curb State MandatesState mandates. The term sends shudders up the spines of local government leaders and one local leader hopes to be able to do something about them. Unfunded state requirements are blamed for putting the squeeze on local budgets, but Ogdensburg Mayor Bill Nelson - who is president of the New York State Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) - may be in the position to do something about it. "So, let's eliminate those unfunded mandates which really will have minimal impact on the state and will have a tremendous impact the localities and the budgets of the localities," Nelson said. Nelson said he intends to use his influence as president of NYCOM to push for mandate relief. |
