On Eve Of Cuomo Speech, Another Message For Albany

Advocates for the poor, public worker unions and members of the 'Occupy Albany' movement say Governor Andrew Cuomo and the Legislature need to raise the minimum wage, fund health care for all, and force the wealthy to pay even more.

They spoke at the 22nd annual "People's State of the State" rally, which lasted about an hour in Albany's 16-degree weather.

The rally Tuesday was meant to prod the Democrat into including some of its issues in his annual State of the State address on Wednesday. The proposals include raising the unemployment benefit and welfare grant in a time of high and rising poverty and reliance on soup kitchens.

The current minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. The groups proposed a new minimum of at least $10.

Cuomo declined comment.
