One Injured When School Bus Hits Amish Buggy

An Amish woman was injured Tuesday morning when her buggy was struck by a school bus in Lewis County.

The accident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Kirk and Statzer roads in the town of Lewis.

The sheriff's department said Adirondack Central School bus driver Joseph Mihalko was making a left turn onto Kirk Road when he struck the rear of the buggy.

After the buggy was struck, the horse ran out of control on Statzer Road which caused the buggy to overturn.

Officials said 22 year old Laura Yoder of Ava and her two children were in the buggy.

Laura Yoder was taken to Rome Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury.

Yoder's children were uninjured.

The bus driver and the students inside the bus were not hurt.
