Operation Black River Clean Up

It was 'Operation Clean Up' along the Black River in Watertown Saturday.

Volunteers with the Black River Committee came out to spruce up an area of the river near Bicentennial Park at the Watertown Fairgrounds.

Every year the group picks a park to clean up.

Officials say more 20 people showed up this year to help preserve a north country treasure.

"Try to make the riverfront a nicer place for river enthusiasts, people that walk the trail, and overall try to make the city a little bit nicer and brighter today," said Black River Committee member Michael Lumbis.

"I think it's about awareness as well about the recreational opportunities along the river in Watertown," said Jason White, another Black River Committee member.

The committee hasn't decided which park they'll clean up next year.
