Overnight Fire Destroys Cape Vincent Home

A fire overnight destroyed a home in the town of Cape Vincent.

Officials say the family was at home on County Route 4 when the fire started around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, but no one was hurt.

The family reported seeing flames coming from the basement, but the cause of the fire is unknown.

Cape Vincent fire officials say water was an issue in fighting the fire, but neighboring departments were a big help.

"It's crucial in any rural fire to get your neighboring departments to come and help, especially hauling water," said Fire Chief Bill Gould.

"Manpower is short for all the departments now," he said

Crews are expected to be on the scene until all the hot spots are out.
