Owens Says Chance Of Government Shutdown Is 50-50

Tools

There's one week to go before the federal government could be partially shut down.

October 1 is the deadline for Congress and the White House to come up with a budget agreement.

North country Congressman Bill Owens is not optimistic.

"I think it's a 50-50 shot that we have a shutdown - 50-50 shot is my best guess at this point," said Owens (D. - 21st District).

Owens says House Speaker John Boehner lacks support from about 60 to 80 House members that Owens calls "the far right."
