North country Congressman Bill Owens says he welcomes any investigation into a lobbying firm that paid for his trip to Taiwan last December.
Owens was in Watertown Thursday for a tour of the Head Start program at the Jefferson County Community Action Planning Council.
He says his office never knowingly violated any laws.
A government watchdog group is calling for the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate the lobbying firm.
Owens says he fully supports the idea.
"Our position has been all along that we were making every attempt to follow the rules," Owens said, "and if, in fact, that was not the case, we were going to make sure we paid that money back to take all doubt out of it."
Owens says he has reimbursed the sponsor of the trip $22,000.
