Playground Improvements Planned for Two Local State Parks

State Park visitation is up, and soon, the playground areas in a couple of parks in the North Country will be getting face lifts to better serve the bigger crowds.

Last week, Governor Cuomo announced funding from his 'New York Works' initiative for upgrades to the playgrounds at Whetstone Gulf State park in Lewis County and Higley Flow State Park in St. Lawrence County.

The money will be used to modernize the playgrounds near the swimming areas at each park with new equipment, including including climbing and sliding structures, swing sets, seesaws and rock climbing walls.

The playground improvements will also be coupled with site improvements, including shade trees or canopies, seating, water fountains, and trail and walkway connections to the rest of the park.

The work is scheduled to be completed in the off-season, with the playgrounds ready for use by next spring.
