Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Fled After Courtroom Ruckus

A 33 year old Watertown man, who allegedly made a fuss in court for refusing to turn off his cell phone, now faces criminal charges.

City police arrested Anthony Ramirez (no fixed address) on charges of second-degree criminal contempt and harassment as well as resisting arrest.

According to police, the trouble started Thursday morning in Watertown City Court when Ramirez was using his cell phone and refused to turn it off.

Ramirez was told to leave the courtroom, police said.

Outside the courtroom, he allegedly became loud and abusive, pushed a court security guard and fled the building on foot.

A number of police officers descended on downtown to look for Ramirez.

Police later took him into custody in the parking lot of Dollar General on Arsenal Street.

According to officials, state police have an active warrant for Ramirez.

City court officials said Ramirez was supposed to appear in court next week to answer charges of reckless driving as well as vehicle and traffic violations.

It was unclear why Ramirez was in the courtroom Thursday.

Ramirez has been in trouble with the law before.

In July, he was charged with criminal trespass for allegedly going behind the counter at the Nice n Easy convenience store on Factory Street and refusing to leave.
