Police Fear Campground Owner May Have Molested Other Children

As the operator of a campground on Black Lake, accused sex abuser Gerard "Jerry" Scime may have had access to a number of youngsters.

But, police don't know is whether any of them may have been potential victims.
"We just want to make sure that we cover everything that we can to ensure that if there are victims out there there that we can identify them and maybe help them," said Detective Sergeant Gus Burns of the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.
Scime is free on $20,000 bail after being charged with felony first-degree sexual abuse.

The alleged sexual contact happened at his business, North Country Cottages & Campground, on County Route 6 in Hammond.

The campground is behind his home and is also near an ice cream stand and youth batting cage.

Scime is alleged to have had a young girl, whom authorities say he knew, sit on his lap.

The girl was then covered with a blanket while he allegedly fondled her.

The abuse allegedly continued over a six year period, starting in 2004 when the youngster was six years old.
Scime wasn't home Wednesday when we stopped to talk with him about the allegations.

7 News has learned he was the subject of a similar investigation involving a young girl in 1997 in western New York, but we could find no record of any criminal charges or convictions.
People in the neighborhood we spoke with say they were shocked and concerned when they heard the news.
"I surprised and disgusted,"  said Katlyn Meuten.
Meanwhile a Morristown judge signed an order allowing sheriff's deputies to seize a number of guns from Scime's home.

In all, nine guns were collected, including a loaded shotgun and an SKS assault rifle.

Investigators say they want to hear from anyone who may have been victimized by Scime.

The number is (315) 379-2222.
