Police Move Closer To Arrest In Massena Robbery Attempt

Police say the 15 Bishop Avenue apartment where the robbery attempt occurred has been a drug trafficking haven for the past few weeks.

"As this investigation has continued, we've determined there was drug activity at this residence and we're looking into that, also," said Massena Police Chief Timmy Currier.
Sources say a quantity of heroin was seized from a closet during a search of the apartment following the Monday night attack on three men.

Two of the victims were tied up - one shot and the other stabbed - while a third man suffered a head injury after he was hit by the fleeing suspects.

Police say the victims are not cooperating.

"It also makes it very difficult for us to bring these people to justice and stop this stuff," Currier said.

Police say the incident wasn't a random act of violence and it's indicative of a growing problem of transients who frequent the north country.

"Some of these people have extensive criminal histories of robberies, assaults - and that's very concerning to us," Currier said.

"Some of them come here for the simple purpose of dealing drugs and that's a real concern for us and certainly an impact on the safety of our community," he said

Police say they are continuing to follow up leads and may be getting close to making an arrest.
