Pool at Watertown Fairgrounds Opens

The swimming pool at the Watertown Fairgrounds is officially open for the season.

You can call it a case of bad timing: With sweltering heat earlier in the week the pool would have been packed with swimmers looking for some relief. But with milder temperatures now here there was plenty of room in the pool when it opened Saturday morning.

Still, lifeguards tell 7 News the pool actually opened earlier than expected.

"We thought we wouldn't be open until the middle of this week, maybe even the end of this week, so we're really excited to get it open today," said city lifeguard Jessica Van Coughnett.

"We had a nice heat wave this week, and so we're hoping we get some sun today and the kids can come enjoy the pool," she added.

Watertown Parks and Recreation officials say they hope to open the Flynn Municipal Pool and the pool at Thompson Park within the next two weeks.
