A man authorities believe was a serial killer confessed to the April 2009 robbery of a bank in Tupper Lake, the FBI confirmed Tuesday.

The man, Israel Keyes, committed suicide while in a jail in Alaska Sunday.

A spokesman for the FBI in Albany onfirmed for 7 News Tuesday that Keyes had confessed to the April 2009 robbery of a Community Bank in Tupper Lake.

In that robbery, a man with a handgun ordered customers to the floor and demanded money.

At the time, police were looking into whether the Tupper Lake robbery and bank robberies in Canton might be related.

Keyes had one other connection to the north country; as we reported Monday, he dumped a weapon he used in a killing into a reservoir in Parishville, near Potsdam.

There's a north country connection to a man believed to have been a serial killer.

He was 34 year old Israel Keyes, who committed suicide in an Alaska jail on Sunday.

Authorities now say they have confirmed that Keyes killed a Vermont couple missing since last year and dumped two guns connected to the murders in St. Lawrence County.

Federal and state investigators said at a news conference in Vermont on Monday afternoon that Keyes provided details about the abduction of Bill and Lorraine Currier that authorities had not released to the public.

The bodies of the Curriers have never been found, but Vermont investigators had said they found evidence to support the claims by Keyes that he killed them.

Officials say he broke into the Currier's home, tied them up and forced them into their car.

He then drove them to an abandoned house in Essex, Vermont.

Officials said Keyes shot Bill Currier and sexually assaulted and strangled Lorraine Currier.
   
According to authorities, Keyes said he dumped two guns from the Currier murder into a reservoir in Parishville, near Potsdam in St. Lawrence County.

Officials said one of the guns and a silencer was used to kill Bill Currier; the other gun was stolen from the couple.

Keyes was jailed in Anchorage, Alaska, in connection with the murder of an 18 year old woman.

Officials said he may be linked to seven other possible slayings around the country.

Authorities said Keyes also indicated he killed four others in Washington state and one person in New York state, but didn't give the victims' names.
