A Potsdam company specializing in biometrics and detection software for fingerprint sensors has received over $300,000 in grants to broaden its research and development work.

NexID Biometrics received a matching grant of $100,000 from Seaway Private Equity Corporation to develop a commercial liveness-detection application for security systems that can scan people's faces and eyes.

The company also received a $150,000 grant from the Syracuse-based CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity to continue research on spoofing techniques used in fingerprint scanning.

Company officials say NexID is also participating with Clarkson University and West Virginia University in the joint research into biometric security technology sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
