Power Outages Not As Widespread As Feared

The north country appears to have gotten off fairly easy, despite winds that gusted Monday night into Tuesday at well over 50 mph.

A little over 200 electrical customers were without power in a handful of outages by around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Around 90 were powerless just north of Watertown, along with almost 80 near Worth and another 45 in the Clayton area.

Officials expected outages to be more widespread. The harsh winds came from the east, instead of the west, so trees and their limbs were buffeted in the direction opposite the one they were conditioned to.

Officials thought the unaccustomed direction would cause more trees to fall, possibly downing power lines.
