Accident Blamed For Power Outages

The power is back on for hundreds of National Grid customers on the south side of Watertown and areas to the south of the city.

According to the utility's web site, 1,582 customers lost electricity shortly after 2 p.m.

A National Grid spokesperson said an accident at the intersection of Barben and Sherman streets was to blame for the outage.

Officials said a woman driving on Sherman Street went off the road, sheared a utility pole in half and struck a tree.

The unidentified woman was taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment.

Power was restored to all customers by Wednesday evening.
