A prosecutor in the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office has resigned after being accused of driving with a blood alcohol content at four times the legal limit.

Sheriff's deputies say they stopped 37 year old Aaron Carr in the city of Watertown Tuesday night while they were investigating a reckless driver complaint.

Deputies say he had a blood alcohol content of .32 percent.

The legal limit is .08 percent.

On Wednesday afternoon, District Attorney Cindy Intschert issued a news release saying that Carr resigned.

Intschert said she will seek a special prosecutor to pursue the case.

"As District Attorney, I expect and demand that my staff be responsible citizens who uphold the law.  The community expects and deserves the same," she said in the news release.

Carr was stopped on Coffeen Street at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said he told them he was on the way to the store.

Police scanner recordings indicate two complaints of a reckless driver, starting on Interstate 81, were called in to 911.

Carr was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, initially refusing to take a breath test, and failure to keep right.

He'll answer the charges in Watertown City Court on March 26.
