Public Weighs in on Clayton Hotel ProposalIt's been the talk of the town since it was proposed...a $30 million dollar hotel planned for the old Frink site in Clayton. On Saturday, community members packed the Opera House to ask questions about the project at a public meeting. There's been several people in the community that have had some questions that would like some answers. We've put together a 60 slide presentation that will hopefully answer some of those questions,” said Christopher Bogenschutz of the Clayton Local Development Corporation. Many of the questions asked centered on whether a five story, $30 million dollar hotel could bring business in during the quiet winter months in the quiet tourist town. Officials say the project has been thoroughly planned out. “The company and the CLDC has done a market study and it seems to prove that there really is a need for a hotel in the area that would work year round,” says Bogenschutz. Another big question is where the funding is coming from for the project. There's still a lot of planning to do, but the goal is to have most of the money come from the developers. “The majority of the funding is private sector investment that the developer will seek,” says Town of Clayton Superintendent Justin Taylor. By conducting an open meeting, officials wanted to make sure the community was involved in every step of the project. They say the developers want to hear from residents too. “They say that they're open to constructive feedback on things that may make their project and our project a more successful project for both them and the community,” adds Taylor. For every question asked, officials seemed to have the right answers. Although it's early in the project, the plan is still on track to eventually have the site house a hotel. Most Popular |
