WPBS held it's 16th annual Ready, Set, Fun! BookFest at Watertown High School Saturday.

Thirty-two vendors were on hand and every child was given a free book to take home.

Officials say the event promotes literacy by teaching children a love for reading at a young age.

"If you go through the booths, you'll see. It may be a dance studio, it may be the Sci-Tech center, but everything will incorporate literacy," said event organizer, Teri-Gene Conlin.

"When the family gets involved and the family works together, the family works. And that's what they're all trying to do here," said Paul Simmons, of Amp Entertainment.

The event also collected canned goods to be donated to the Urban Mission in Watertown.
