Recent Veterans Entitled To Exemption, AG Says

New York's attorney general was in Watertown Friday to announce details of a new plan to ensure all U.S. military veterans receive the state property tax exemption they're legally entitled to.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says the existing state law is written in a way that suggests the veterans' property tax exemption does not cover veterans of conflicts in Afghanistan, the second Iraq war, or the global war on terror.
The attorney general's office issued a letter to county property tax officials this week clarifying that veterans of the armed forces who served in the last 23 years do indeed qualify.
