The Red Cross honored a group of northern New Yorkers on Wednesday for being real heroes.
Fifteen people from Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties were awarded for their heroic actions saving the lives of others.
The Real Heroes Breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn in Watertown was hosted by the Northern New York Chapter of the Red Cross.
Among the honorees was a volunteer firefighter who prevented a runaway ferry on the St. Lawrence River from crashing into the shoreline.
"This particular thing was a multi-disciplinary situation that drew on skills I've had for the last 40 years," Ron Jacobs said, "so I really appreciate the fact that I'm being recognized for that."
This was the north country's first Red Cross Real Heroes Breakfast in 10 years.
