People in Jefferson County kicked off the countdown to the 2013 Relay for Life.

Wednesday night's event in Watertown drew close to 200 people.

The Jefferson County Relay is historically one of the top fundraisers in the New York/New Jersey region.

The goal is to fund cancer research and, hopefully, find a cure.

"This gives them the opportunity to get together with a community full of people," said the American Cancer Society's Don Boshart.

"We'll have upwards of 70 teams of people, 15 people on a team," he said.

The Relay for Life in Watertown will take place June 14 and 15.
