Remington Art Museum Head To Retire

Ed LaVarnway, executive director of the Frederic Remington Art Museum since 2005, has announced he will be retiring.

LaVarnway will retire sometime in 2013, after a successor has been selected and can work through an orientation and transition period.

"I will miss my colleagues and being among the wonderful Remington artworks and archival materials. After returning to the North Country, my wife and I have enjoyed making new friends and getting involved in local cultural events. As exciting has been the stream of museum visitors from every US state, Canadian province and dozens of other countries. I want to especially thank the trustees and many museum volunteers who do so much for the institution,"said LaVarnway in a prepared statement.

Lavarnway said he would like to leave no later than June 1.

The museum's board meets next week to form a search committee.
