A Watertown man who was "outboarded" to Albany County jail because of crowded conditions locally hanged himself Saturday morning, the Albany Times-Union reports.

Demearle Gulledge, 36, was found hanging by a bedsheet from the bar doors of his cell a little before 7 a.m., the newspaper reported.

Albany County's sheriff said letters found in Gulledge's cell indicated he was depressed.

Gulledge was being held on assault charges for allegedly fighting with jail guards in Jefferson County. (Read our story on the 2012 incident here.) He was also a level 2 sex offender.

Gulledge's mother-in-law told the Times-Union the family had complained about Gulledge being assaulted by guards in Jefferson County.
