'Ride for Dignity'

About 80 bicyclists braved the wet weather Saturday to take part in a "Ride for Dignity."

Participants took either a 25 mile or 50 mile bike ride. Both started and ended at Bill Saiff's West View Lodge in Henderson Harbor.

The goal was to raise money and awareness for ShelterBox USA, an international relief organization that provides tents and other essential equipment to victims of disasters.

"It's an opportunity for us to really spread the word about ShelterBox and the wonderful work that ShelterBox does around the world," said ride organizer Tom Deuson.

Last year, ShelterBox USA delivered nearly 20,000 boxes to 23 countries around the world.

Every box contains the essentials a family of 10 needs to survive in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, including a specially designed disaster relief tent; equipment for water storage, purification and cooking; a stove, basic tools, blankets, and children's school supplies.

Since 2000, more than 1.2 million people have been helped by the organization.
