Ritchie: 'Everyone Has To Speak Up' To Preserve Fort Drum

Local officials won't be alone in their fight to preserve military and civilian jobs at Fort Drum.

Under the Army's worst case scenario, as many as 16,000 soldiers and workers could be cut by 2020 if the Army cuts its overall strength to just 420,000 soldiers.

State Senator Patty Ritchie secured money in the state budget to defend Fort Drum and she says now is the time to speak up.

"This is something that everyone has to focus on. Everyone has to speak up and everyone has to rally together to make sure we do everything possible to protect the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum and make sure that they are here," said Ritchie (R. - 48th District).

Senator Ritchie says her voice is among those defending Fort Drum and its economic impact, which extends far beyond the borders of the north country.
