Ritchie Has New Concerns About Shared SUNY Presidency

There are more concerns being raised over the sudden resignation Tuesday of SUNY Potsdam President John Schwaller and whether it opens the door to a shared presidency between the college and SUNY Canton.
 
SUNY Central has been pushing for the colleges to share services as part of a new alliance to cut costs.

Among the positions the colleges already share are a chief financial officer and an interlibrary loan specialist.

SUNY Canton recently underwent a new administrative realignment structure.

While Carli Schiffner is serving as interim president at SUNY Canton, replacing Joseph Kennedy who retired, Schwaller's resignation will become effective in July.

State Senator Patty Ritchie (R. - 48th District) tells 7 News she is worried that without a permanent president for either campus, SUNY Central may push a single presidency for both.
 
"I have real concerns that there may be something else under foot and I'm certainly going to need to stay on top of it," said Ritchie.
 
Ritchie has introduced legislation calling for individual presidents for SUNY colleges.
