'Road Rage' Leads To Menacing Charge

A Potsdam man was arrested following what police are calling an incident of road rage.

Potsdam police say 79 year old Thomas Roberts allegedly pointed a handgun at another motorist Thursday afternoon.

Police say it started when Roberts cut off another driver -- an out-of-area woman police declined to identify -- at the intersection of Main Street and Pierrepont Avenue.

She pulled up next to him near Clarkson Avenue and Maple Street and confronted him about his driving. Police say the argument escalated.

At one point, Roberts allegedly brandished a handgun and pointed it at the woman.

Police say the woman was able to provide them with the license plate number and a description of the vehicle.

Police say they spoke with Roberts, but he did not admit to pointing the weapon at the alleged victim.

They say the handgun is legally registered.

Roberts was charged with second degree menacing, criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, and failure to obey a traffic control device.

He was issued tickets for those charges and will appear in Potsdam village court at a later date.
